There is more than one path that leads to the end of a journey. But when you’re travelling with your family, you end up almost anywhere but your destination, among other surprises.
For the first time in years, we had the chance to travel as a family during the Christmas holidays. It was a getaway of many months in the making that went through so many discussions over many late-night family dinners. We went to a nearby beach just a couple of hours away from the town.
For the first time, I saw my mother enjoying herself by the sea, the gift I gave her (a wood watch), can be seen while she stroll by the seaside. She told me that bathing in the sea is a good form of physical therapy. Watching her almost motionless in the water, I imagined her as Venus in a Botticelli painting, and prayed silently for her rebirth, rising again in the healing power of the sea.
