The 2010 Fiesta Bowl of Boise State vs. TCU could become epic. This Boise State vs. TCU match-up at the 2010 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl showcases two teams that went undefeated in the 2010 regular season. Both have a chip on their shoulders after being shut out of the 2010 BCS National Championship Game. They did everything that they needed to do, including scheduling good opponents outside of their conference, but the voters just didn’t see it that way and chose to have Alabama vs. Texas in the National Championship instead. That makes this bowl a consolation prize of sorts, but still gives Boise State and TCU a national stage on Monday night.
Boise State was in this same position last season, when they took a 12-0 record into the 2009 Poinsettia Bowl and were forced to play TCU. TCU up-ended Boise State with a late fourth quarter comeback (17 to 16) and it ended the Boise State Broncos search of perfection. Now the Boise State vs. TCU match-up has been forced upon the two teams once again, but it also ensures that one of these two teams will end the 2010 season undefeated. With the new BCS system, the voters have to pick the winner of the 2010 BCS National Championship Game as their #1 team, but if that rule wasn’t in place there could be some interesting votes stemming from this game.
Both Boise State and TCU have been good on offense and defense during the 2009 regular season, but many sports analysts have said that this TCU team could possibly be the best team in college football. That means that TCU comes in as the favored team, posting a 12-0 record so far this season, and a defense that has only allowed 149 total points. Boise State wasn’t bad on defense either, giving up only 230 points themselves, but in comparison TCU seems to be favored in that category. In regards to the offensive output, Boise State scored an astounding 574 points this season, compared to 488 points for TCU. Both teams know how to put points on the board, and it will be up to the defenses to dictate how this game is going to conclude.
This game could end up being an offensive shoot-out if the defenses can’t hold, with TCU ranked 4th in total yards per game and Boise State ranked 8th overall. Both teams have become accustomed to blowing out opponents this season as well, but we don’t see that happening on Monday night. This is a huge chance for both starting quarterbacks to really get noticed on a national scale, and for the future of both conferences and both programs, they need to put up a great game on Monday night to prove they belong in the discussion of the NCAA elite teams. Kick-off for the 2010 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl is 5:00 P.M. PST on FOX, and will be played in Cardinals Stadium in Arizona.
